Word Import: Efficient Transfer of Documents to the Wiki

Ideally, all the accumulated knowledge of your company should be documented in the wiki. However, in practice, this often isn’t the case, as transferring existing content can be a tedious task.

With our Word Import Plugin, we’ve developed a solution to simplify this process. The plugin enables the import of .docx files into the wiki, automatically converting the content and formatting into DokuWiki syntax. Images embedded in Word documents are also extracted and made available directly in the DokuWiki Media Manager.

The current public version of the plugin already supports importing basic Word files. DokuWiki Business Plugin Partners additionally benefit from an Early Access version with extended functionalities, including enhanced handling of Word formatting, image alignments, links, and even support for mathematical formulas. Furthermore, this version enables bulk importing of entire folders of Word documents, further increasing efficiency.

AI Chat with Local Models and Google Gemini

Our AI Chat Plugin has received some minor updates. Google has now made its Gemini model available in Europe. The AI Chat Plugin can now utilize this large language model (LLM) as well. Additionally, the latest models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Groq have been added.

For those who prefer not to transfer their data to the cloud, there’s the option to run pre-trained large language models locally—provided appropriate hardware is available. The simplest way to achieve this is through the open-source project Ollama. Our Chat Plugin can now be configured to communicate with an Ollama instance.

ProseMirror: Copy & Paste for Images and HTML

Uploading images via copy & paste into the wiki has long been possible thanks to the imgpaste Plugin, but only with the standard DokuWiki editor.

With a new update to the plugin, this functionality is now also available for users of the ProseMirror WYSIWYG Editor. But that’s not all: In addition to individual images, you can now paste longer HTML texts—for instance, when copying content from a website. Linked images contained in the HTML are automatically downloaded and saved in the DokuWiki Media Manager.

DokuWiki Business Partner Program Launched

As announced in previous newsletters, our DokuWiki Business Plugin Partner Program aims to explore ways to create a stable, future-ready foundation for the DokuWiki ecosystem.

Through the partner program, we can ensure the continuous maintenance and development of critical DokuWiki plugins. Our partners gain exclusive early access to new features and updates before they are publicly available.

We are thrilled to have already welcomed our first partners, who can now take advantage of the Early Access version of our Word Import Plugin. If you’re also interested in a partnership, don’t hesitate to reach out to us!

Frequently Asked Questions from Our Readers

Thank you to everyone who provided valuable feedback following our last newsletters. Some questions tend to come up frequently, so we’d like to address them briefly here:

“I want to support the program but have trouble securing a budget for it.”
The partner program works similarly to a traditional software license. If your company already has a budget for software licenses, the partner program should fit right into that.

“How does Early Access work?”
As a partner, you’ll receive a license key (token), which you can enter in the CosmoCode Plugin. The plugin will then display all available Early Access versions, which you can install with just a click.

“I don’t currently need new features. Does the partner program still make sense for me?”
Absolutely! Even if you don’t currently require new features, the partner program enables the ongoing maintenance and compatibility of existing plugins. This provides the regular updates that improve the stability and security of your installation.

“Does the partner program replace CosmoCode’s support?”
No, CosmoCode will continue offering all regular services related to DokuWiki, including installation and configuration, troubleshooting, and the development or customization of plugins based on your needs. The partner program complements these services by supporting the long-term stability and security of your DokuWiki installation in the background.

“Which plugins are supported under the partner program?”
The selection depends on the needs of our partners. We focus on plugins that are most commonly used and in high demand. Currently, our primary focus is on complex and widespread plugins, like the Bureaucracy Plugin and the ProseMirror Plugin. The scope of support will also depend on the number of participating partners.
