Social Media Research Archive
The "Social Media Research Archiv" is a webbased application to record, manage and archive resources of social platforms such as facebook, twitter and youtube.
The "Somera" application was developed for our client "Archiv der Jugenkulturen" to archive activities on social platforms, this making them accessible to science and research. Although "Internet never forgets" content that is visible today disappears after a short time. The "Archiv der Jugendkulturen" is concerned with the archiving of content artifacts of youth cultures. In the past their work focused the collection of print products such as fanzines; with this application they have been given the opportunity to document contents and activities of the youth cultures in the Web.
Written in Django the application is able to manage content between different platforms and media types. Management functions have been here developed based on common library management systems.
To facilitate the process of recording, an individual FireFox plugin was developed. The plugin eases the process of recording contents of just currently visited Web pages and tranfers them automatically in the application.
The administrative functions of the system enable the categorization of content via keywords, people, groups, locations and platforms.
