NETINERA is the third largest railway company in Germany and acts as a holding for multiple daughter companies (Metronom, ODEG, Voigtlandbahn, and others.). NETINERA hase more than 3,000 employees. To promote CO² conservation, CosmoCode created a collaborative knowledge sharing platform for train drivers.
The project aims to reduce CO² creation by optimizing the mode of operation. To achieve this a wiki-like platform based on crowdsourcing ideas was to be developed to let train drivers exchange track knowledge and learn from each other.
CosmoCode won the pitch with suggesting a custom solution instead of using standard wiki systems.
Central element of the created soulution is an interactive, graphic track profile editor. Using it, train drivers can create profiles showing their detailled way of driving at any particular part of the track. Created profiles can be commented and copied, edited and optimized by other drivers.
The solution was created as a multi-client solution to give each NETINERA sub company their own, seperate platform.
Development was done in close partnership with experienced train drivers to bring their specific knowledge into the platform. For example adding prominent landmarks and detailled driving classifications (accelerate, constant force, energy retrieval braking, etc) were added.
The Bahnbook application uses responsive design and can also be used on smartphones and tablets.
CosmoCode also provides hosting and backups.
