I just released a new version of our Open Source LDAP address book software ConTagged. Besides some bugfixes regarding the Vcard import, I added a new feature: exporting contacts through QR codes.
What is an QR Code? you might ask. QR Code is one of several ways to encode data into a two dimensional “bar code”. You might have seen them used on parcels delivered by FedEX or UPS for example. And they are very popular in Japan.
What is nice about these two dimensional codes is that they are relatively easy to decode even with crappy mobile phone cameras.
And that's exactly why I built this into ConTagged. Now when you want to take the phone number of a contact with you, you just can just open his details in ConTagged, click the “QR Code” tab and snap a picture with your mobile phone to import it into your phone's address book.
I tested the feature with an App called “Quickmark” on the iPhone. Newer Nokia Phones should come with a QR Code reader right out of the box and I'm sure there are applications for other phone brands available.
